Plot Summary: The MC chooses Ken as her guardian since she has known him for five years. The MC is discomforted by the changes in her life, especially since being a princess doesn’t feel real to her yet, and then the MC learns that her father isn’t ill as the knights originally told her, but that he is actually missing, and that the people after her are assassins sent from the neighboring kingdom, Gladius. Ken is at her side, teasing her as always, and the MC soon finds herself leaning on him for more than just comfort

What I think of him: Ken is blunt and brusque. He worked as a blacksmith in the MC’s village for the five years he had been around to guard her, so she’s the closest thing she has to a childhood friend and he acts very familiar with her. He’s rather good at physical things but when it comes to emotions he’s a little clumsy. He has a soft spot for sweet rolls

Nickname: Kenny

Charm point: He wants to be the only one to guard the MC

Quote: “I can’t give up on you. It’s too late. I can’t hold back the way I feel about you now…”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Chat while he’s on night guard duty

Would have eloped with:

  • Gaia, because he is there if you want to talk
  • Sion, because he is trying to give advice if you’d just wait a minute

Favorite moments:

  • Ken and the MC bickering over their food
  • Ken just giving up on being formal
  • The shopping date
  • Haku revealing that the MC was jealous and Ken just coming out and saying “well I was jealous too”

Worst moments:

  • The whole Sora issue could have been easily avoided
  • I knew exactly where the route was headed as soon as someone mentioned that Ken was the king’s favorite, and I did not like it at all

Worth the price of admission?: I did enjoy Ken’s route, but it was in spite of the route utilizing two plots that I don’t like. The interactions between the knights and the MC, and between the MC and Ken were just so strong that I managed to over look a plot which wasn’t bad, it was just composed of things I don’t care for personally. So I’d definitly give this one a try if you like childhood friends, athletic guys, or knights

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: The MC is concerned if she is qualified to be a princess when she and Ken come across a festival on the verge of breaking into a riot. The MC really shows her stuff in this epilogue, even if everything falls too neatly into place after one hurdle is passed. It’s not super romantic, but it’s solid

Mitsuhide Akechi

Mitsuhide .png

Plot Summary: When the MC becomes Nobunaga’s poison taster, it doesn’t take long for her to meet and befriend Nobunaga’s sister Oichi, and from there, become Oichi cooking instructor as Oichi prepares for her marriage. When the MC’s gender is revealed, it is Mitsuhide, Nobunaga’s right-hand man, who steps in to save her from possible consequences. At first, the MC thinks the world of Mitsuhide, but when his kindness constantly reveals itself to have a motive, the MC begins to wonder if he is truly being kind to her, or if he is just using her for the sake of the Oda clan

What I think of him: Mitsuhide is kind and gentle, but is also a fearsome swordsman. He prefers to use less violent means to achieve his ends such as manipulation. He is capable of doing terrible things on Nobunaga’s orders and many consider him to be Nobunaga’s assassin. Although he always puts the Oda clan first, Mitsuhide is inclined towards mercy and has accepted many people into his service that Nobunaga has ordered thrown out or executed. Mitsuhide has pledged his life to following Nobunaga and that is the most important thing to him

Nickname: Light of Honor

Charm point: His excitement over rice balls

Quote: “I didn’t want to lose you. Even if that meant turning Lord Nobunaga, or even the entire country, against me.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Ride with him on a horse because you can feel how much he cherishes you

Would have eloped with: No one

Favorite moments:

  • When Mitsuhide comes charging in to save the MC at Mt. Hiei
  • Mitsuhide telling Nobunaga that he failed to follow orders, but as a man he needed to protect the woman he loved, and Nobunaga being all “Mitsuhide, you are finally a man”

Worst moments:

  • Why did Mitsuhide leave the MC on Mt. Hiei like he did. Even if she protested, he should have dragged her off the mountain

Worth the price of admission?: Mitsuhide’s route is sadly forgettable, and it’s a little hard to pin down why exactly. The plot takes place at a great time, revolving around the Azai betrayal and the burning of Mt. Hiei. Mitsuhide’s conflict about wanting all of his loyalty to be for Nobunaga and struggling with how important the MC is to him is good. Maybe it’s just that the route is building to the climax, but nothing really memorable happens during the early parts. That puts Mitsuhide’s route in the if-you-are-running-out-of-other-things-to-play category, since there was nothing particularly bad about it either

Nobunaga Oda

Plot Summary: When the Imagawa are defeated, Takechiyo decides that the Matsudaira will form an alliance with the Oda since Nobunaga is the one closest to unifying the country, and he sends the MC to seal the deal. The MC is fond of Nobunaga since he treated her well during her days as a hostage with the Oda Clan and convinces him to agree to the alliance. Nobunaga seems just as fond of the MC, but then an accident causes the MC’s gender to be revealed to him, and the MC begins her struggle to show her loyalty to both Nobunaga and to Takechiyo, who seem determined to bump head

What I think of him: Nobunaga is a man who will go to any ends to achieve his goal of unification, no matter how is causes others to regard him. He is a man who treasures things that amuse him, whether those things are people or foreign objects. He is a skilled dancer, and enjoys doing so since dancing brings him peace

Nickname: Demon Lord

Charm point: He continually proposes to the MC

Quote: “When I am with you, I forget all of the turmoil in the world. You are the only one who can lead my heart to peace.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Sit together and talk

Would have eloped with: Tadakatsu No one

Favorite moments:

  • Nobunaga’s performance
  • How Nobunaga repeatedly asks the MC to marry him even after being rejected each time
  • The MC resting her head on Nobunaga’s lap
  • The MC deciding that the only way she can retain her loyalty to both Takechiyo and Nobunaga is for her to die with Nobunaga

Worst moments:

  • Nobunaga essentially holding the MC captive
  • Nobunaga loosing his chill when he sees the MC and Hideyoshi together

Worth the price of admission?: I’m always interested in seeing how otoge interpret Nobunaga since he is usually played as a villain in other media, he earned that Demon Lord reputation after all. Love Legend of Sengoku does a good job of making Nobunaga a desireable partner while also not watering down his character too much. This Nobunaga is completely capable of doing terrible things, and he accepts that he’s probably going to hell, but he wants to achieve the unification of Japan more than anything else. The route itself if mostly about the MC realizing that she’s in love with Nobunaga and then her struggle since it seems like she will either have to choose Nobunaga or Takechiyo; the word “loyalty” features heavily. The focus on the MC is a good take for a Nobunaga route since they typically focus on him typically. All in all, it’s a good route, although not the best in the game, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes otoge set in the Sengoku Jidai

Plot Summary: The MC chooses the door that leads to a beach and finds a merman washed up on the beach. Ocean is the youngest prince of the underwater kingdom and wishes to be human and explore sights he’s never seen before. Unfortunately, even though the MC wants to grant his wish so she can meet the requirement of making someone happy, she isn’t capable of such advanced magic, but now that he’s gotten the idea of being human, Ocean isn’t about to let it go so easily

What I think of him: Ocean is a little reckless and a lot curious of the land world. He is the baby of his family and is doted on my his father and two elder brothers. He has a bit of arrogance to him, but honestly that is only to be expected considering who he is. He tends to prompt others to do things for him, but then charge off to do it for himself when that fails. He is very strong in his own right and like all of his people, has a mesmerizing singing voice

Nickname: None

Charm point: He loves flowers

Quote: “I’m happy enough… Since I can disappear while being held by you… I won’t forget about you, even if I’m dead. I’ll love you forever…”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down:

Would have eloped with:

Favorite moments:

  • Ocean not knowing how to put on human clothes and ending up tied up in them
  • Ocean’s sadness when he realized the MC traded her voice away, and then his strength when fighting Marybell
  • The scenes on the beach before and after the bubble incident
  • Marybell was funny and awesome

Worst moments:

  • Ocean’s assumption about the MC getting with Aster

Worth the price of admission?: Ocean’s route is pretty great, there are some touching scenes, some really funny scenes, and I think they do a great job showing Ocean’s wonder for the world on land is well done without dwelling on it too much. Also, Ocean is one of the best, if not the best, love interest in this game (it’s a tossup between Ocean and Gretel)

Kei Murasame

Plot Summary: When the MC follows a lead on the Salamander case, she falls into a trap and is in danger of being captured. She is saved by Kei Murasame, the man who got her changed into Naotake’s unit and who as seems to be following her. Kei explains to the MC that she is being pursed by a group of psychics called Hihou, and offers to train her. Despite some misgivings, the MC gratefully accepts his offer. The MC can’t quite figure Kei out, he seems to treasure her, calling her Princess, but at other times he seems cold, and most of all she is sure that he is definitely hiding something from her

What I think of him: Kei is calm and rather mysterious. He is a powerful man, both psychical and politically, and he his presence is both gentle and commanding. His powers are foresight and creating a shield, although he gets the most use out of the former. He is very strict when it comes to the MC’s training, and he has very high expectations for her. There is frequently a coldness about him, as though he were a scientist observing doing some clinical observation, and although he does use his foresight a lot, he doesn’t frequently interfear with what he sees

Nickname: The Prophet

Charm point: The MC is his precious Princess

Quote: “You are more dear to me than anyone can ever be. I love your smile, I love it when you’re working hard… I couldn’t bare the thought of you with anyone else.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Sleep together, because the trust is finally there and he’s ready to give into his desire

Would have eloped with:

  • Naotake, because he’s just so worry when the MC goes missing for her training session

Favorite moments:

  • Kei hugging the MC like it’s the last time he’s going to see her the morning before she meets Salamander’s boss
  • Kei telling the MC that he wants to keep her all to himself
  • When sexy times are underway and Kei stops to make sure that the MC is completely okay with what will happen
  • Kei saying he doesn’t want a healer since the MC promised to care for him until he got better

Worst moments:

  • There are so many moments when I was thinking about how Kei could have done something that would have solved the issues that came up
  • The MC thinking that she doesn’t want to screw anyone up with her powers and going out to stop Salamander on her own… stupid

Worth the price of admission?: There’s a really weird dissonance in this route. Kei looks great on paper: he’s gentle, he’s powerful, he calls the MC “Princess” and his treatment of her generally reflects that opinion. But there is something off about him, something cold. It’s probably a combination of a few things. First off there is his tendency towards tough love; when the MC is learning how to use her foresight he is super critical of her and then when things move on to the training with the baseballs where the MC was actually being hurt for the sake of training… Second there the way he tends to not interfere with his visions; when he has a vision of the MC confronting Salamander he chooses not to interfere because he sees that Naotake and Yusuke will be there, similarly when he sees that the MC is going to encounter Takigawa he doesn’t do anything because he knows that the MC will win out over his powers in the end (and she almost committed suicide instead). Third is that he feels really unsympathetic toward’s the MC trauma about her abilities, actually he doesn’t even seem to acknowledge her trauma and it feels like he is treating it as her just being stubborn about her powers. Right at the end I felt like his feeling for the MC were sincere but that was only when he took the hit for her, and that is problematic because according to him, he knew he was in love with her even before they met, and ultimately that might be the biggest problem with this route: that Kei doesn’t change or develop as a character at all he is pretty much the same all the way through. I had such high hopes going into this route (since Kei is so good-looking and mysterious in the prologue), but I think I would recommend passing up this route
