Mitsuhide Akechi

mitsuhide

Plot Summary: The MC is working as a maid in Gifu Castle, which is used for training Oda Clan vassals. Mitsuhide comes to the castle as a guest lecturer and the MC is much more interested in his lessons than the warriors he is supposed to be training. Through some lessons, the two of them become close, and when Mitsuhide wins a boon from Nobunaga, he requests that the MC become his maid

What I think of him: Mitsuhide is serious and an intellectual. He pays attention to things like making tea properly and calligraphy, and his seriousness causes others to dislike him at times. He has pride in his power and is the best marksman with a gun in the land. He has a firm idea of how a lord should act and how the land should be governed. Mitsuhide keeps his troubles to himself and at times he looks very sad

Nickname: None

Charm point: He’s always willing to teach the MC something new

Quote: “No matter how far apart, or how much I forget, I will always love you.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Study something together

Would have eloped with: No one

Favorite moments:

  • Lessons with Mitsuhide
  • Mitsuhide asking the MC to stay with him
  • Sakura petal kiss
  • Mitsuhide and the MC in her room after she was almost abducted, and Goemon almost getting stabbed in his butt
  • Mitsuhide and Goemon’s friendship/thing
  • The real Mitsuhide making his appearance at Honnoji and the ensuing rescue and escape

Worst moments:

  • Deus ex Yukimura
  • I know that they wanted to make sure to include certain events, but did Nobunaga have to be such a jerk?
  • Again, it’s short
  • Mitsuhide seriously considering becoming a monk in the “And Then” chapter. I mean, seriously?

Worth the price of admission?: This route starts off really calmly, which I enjoyed, but when things got going, I was on the edge of my seat wondering how things were going to play out. Since Mitsuhide is historically famous for a specific thing, I was interested to see how Voltage was going to spin it, and even though I had an inkling of how things were going to play out, there are things that happen that were driving me crazy with speculation. Mitsuhide is a little hard to understand. One thing I especially didn’t get was why he looks sad at times. I thought that maybe he had an unrequited love in the past (I got this idea because of a line he has and also because he gives the MC A Tale of Genji). The other thing that mystified me was his considering becoming a monk. I don’t know where the extra plot would come from, but I would have appreciated a couple more chapters to get to know what he was thinking. Bottom line, it’s good, but definite room for improvement
