Vincent Knight

Plot Summary: The MC gets lost in town on her way to her new school and Vincent helps her out, imagine her surprise when her knight shows up at the Academy as a special student and teacher. The MC is drawn to Vincent, and although Luca continues to claim the Vincent is suspicious, she can’t help but wonder if her fledgling feelings are love. But the MC’s life is not all sunshine and fluff; she has been having dreams about a woman warning that the MC is in grave danger

What I think of him: Vincent feels like a cross between a big brotherly guy and a flirt (although he isn’t really, maybe he just gives off vibes). Vincent is really a sort of middle of the road guy. He is cheerful, friendly, and energetic, but far less so than many other Solmare characters who have these traits (for example Shiroya from DN2 or even Randy from this game). One of the things about him that does stand out is his ability to use offensive magic, and his difficulty with white magic, which is comparable with the MC’s skills. Although Vincent seems like he would be a great boyfriend, he claims that he will never have a significant other because he wouldn’t be able to make her happy

Nickname: None

Charm point: The boy looks good in uniform

Quote: “What king of knight can’t even protect the woman he loves?!”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Sneak out of school with to walk around town, arm in arm

Would have eloped with:

  • Joel, because the route pushes him really hard (especially if you are coming straight off of Joel’s route before this)

Favorite moments:

  • How the MC strong arms Vincent into letting her come along to the forest and fairy realm
  • Vincent finding the MC irresistibly adorable
  • The MC refusing to just pretend her feelings don’t exist just because Vincent says he can’t accept them

Worst moments:

  • The hall of doors was very repetitive after a while, and I don’t think it added much if anything
  • Vincent’s backstory was lackluster. It very much felt like it was thrown together so Vincent would have a reason not to get with the MC immediately
  • The Happy Ending wasn’t the best either. Mostly I felt that the scenes with Vincent’s friend was a waste

Worth the price of admission?: Vincent’s route is good, but doesn’t really match up to other routes in this game, especially considering that this is after Klaus, Randy, Azusa, and Joel – all of whom had very interesting routes. Vincent had the potential to match up to the aforementioned guys,  but the route continued to focus in unfortunate places (like Vincent’s lame reason why he can’t fall in love) and neglected more interesting questions (like Vincent’s status, his training, why his magic is the way that it is, etc). His route is free so you probably won’t regret reading it, but go read some other routes first

This may seem like a pretty harsh review, but I’ve been sitting on it a while so my usually reaction when finishing a route (“oh my gosh, so cuuuute”) has had time to cool, and with this objectivity I really don’t think Vincent is fleshed out enough to stand against the other guys who all have distinct and strong personalities. This may very well have to do with the nature of the plot of his route.

Plot Summary: The MC chooses Ran as her companion and Fuyukiku, Yayoi, and Kaito fill out the group. The MC is enjoying the time she spends with Ran, but she soon comes to understand that there is reason why Ran was so happy to be chosen to accompany her, well other than the fact that he has loved her since their first meeting

What I think of him: Ran is rambunctious and optimistic. He’s impulsive as well and doesn’t bother to filter himself most of the time. Ran depends largely on his instincts, and tends to rely on Fuyukiku to reign him in. The problem with this is that he can get carried away easily which can have dire consequences. Even though he is a cheerful person, he has been disregarded and looked down upon by his home village. Still, the love and care of those close to him has helped him remain a happy person

Nickname: Demon Child

Charm point: He can’t control his love for the MC (and he’s basically a puppy)

Quote: “We just agreed to get married… and you’re lookin’ so cute. I can’t NOT do somethin’.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Sleep together, because he snuck into the MC’s bed, again

Would have eloped with:

  • Fuyukiku, because this was probably as close to a threesome as it’ll get
  • Shiroya, because he and Ran are so similar
  • Yayoi, because so much tsundere
  • Ayu, because please

Favorite moments:

  • Ran being so obviously in love with MC and following her around like a puppy
  • Ran being so affected by the MC being mad at him
  • Flashback with young Ran, Kiku, and MC
  • Meeting the MC’s ancestor (with sprite!)
  • Ran and Kiku

Worst moments:

  • Kiku’s torment could have been detailed more

Worth the price of admission?: Ran’s route is basically Shiroya’s route if the latter was more about internal strife in the Summer Village. And I really enjoyed it. I wish there had been more about Kiku’s internal struggle, but I guess I can look to Kiku’s route for that (eventually). Ran is just so cheerful and adorable, he reminds me a lot of Elliot from the Kuni no Alice series. There are some good plot twists in this one that involve speculation I’ve been seeing/having since the premise of the game was released. Ran is definitely worth a go

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: Right after the MC accepts Ran’s proposals, Ran can’t seem to keep his hands off of her despite the fact that Kiku might walk in at any minute. This feel a little more like it’s own thing that the epilogues have been feeling for this game which is nice, but it basically does exactly what the others do, give a little steamy action between the MC and her chosen man. That being said it’s still a nice read if you have the points to get it
