Yoh Kobayakawa

Plot Summary: The MC chooses Yoh with the intention of getting away as soon as she can, but when Yoh collapses from a fever just outside of the Single’s Event venue she ends up taking him to her apartment. When someone breaks into the MC’s apartment she decides to let Yoh stay with her for a while. The MC quickly gets used to living with Yoh and treats him as something between a brother and a puppy, but as the two of them get closer and learn from each other, their relationship becomes something more

What I think of him: Yoh is cheerful and puppy-like, but also polite and impersonal (in that he doesn’t really talk about himself). He loves flowers, especially arranging them and sharing his love of them with people. He hates conflict and with alter how he acts based on what he thinks people want to see; in this way he is actually pretty good at manipulating people. This of course means that he is not as sweet and innocent as he looks most of the time. That is not to say that he doesn’t have plenty of child-like qualities, because in him they abound

Nickname: None

Charm point: The way he is always waiting to say “Welcome home”

Quote: “If you hug me that tight, all of the secret desire I feel for you is gonna come bursting out!”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Cuddle, because he’s clingy

Would have eloped with:

  • Sosuke, because he obviously cares for the MC

Favorite moments:

  • Yoh visiting the MC on her first day at work and helping her come to an important revelation
  • Yoh freaking out about his bedhead, and the MC fixing it for him
  • Yoh showing his flower arranging skills
  • The MC waking Yoh up
  • How the MC just gets used to Yoh pushing her down and striping to the point that she barely reacts
  • The MC unintentionally inspiring Yoh
  • Yoh cooking for the MC and the second promise

Worst moments:

  • The MC thinking that Yoh might be Yakuza is far fetched even with the misleading things Yoh says
  • All the bad things seem to come to a head at the same time in the most convenient of ways
  • The MC jumps to conclusions just to create more (unnecessary) drama

Worth the price of admission?: Yoh’s puppyness is adorable and I enjoyed the way you could see him gradually falling for the MC and wanting to be a better man because of her even when she wasn’t aware of how she was affecting him. Yoh himself felt sort of standard as far as the younger man type goes (which is actually different in this specific game), but his manipulativeness and the way the MC eventually gets used to him and starts to no sell him give the route a satisfying edge

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: Even though they are going out, the MC hasn’t been able to see Yoh very much since he is busy with his work as the successor of his school. The two of them make plans to go on a date on the MC’s next day off, but the date isn’t what the MC expects. This epilogue gives a cursory look at all the obstacles the MC and Yoh will have to struggle through in their relationship with most of the focus on how the age difference bothers them both in different ways. The MC taught Yoh so much in the main route that it was nice to see him as the teacher for once

Notable substories:

  • His PoV: The main route from Yoh’s point-of-view. This substory jumps around a lot (and makes excessive use of flashbacks), but it does a good job of hitting all the important scenes and there are even extra scenes during the route that the MC wasn’t a part of. All-in-all it was a very satisfying PoV substory since it give you a real good feeling for Yoh personality and also his thought process
  • Domestic Bliss: When the MC’s apartment building is being repaired Yoh rents an apartment for the two of them, and so begins their week of domestic bliss. This was a really cute substory with chapters in both the MC’s and Yoh’s point-of-views. It was especially nice to see how the way they live together has changed so much since they fell in love
