Charles Garmaldi

Charles

Plot Summary: The prince asking for a dance is Charles. Charles is everything one would expect from a prince charming, but the MC can’t help but notice that there is something very melancholic in his eyes. When Camille helps her obtain the position of Royal Florist, the MC begins to desire to see a real smile on Charles’s face. As the MC begins to get close to Charles, she  receives several warnings that she should stay away from Charles for her own good

What I think of him: Charles is kind, sensitive, and elegant. He is also pretty languid since he spends most of his nights managing the Casino de Monte Carlo, a task that causes no end of rumors about him. Charles has a melancholy air about him. He is jaded from his experience at the casino and also because he looks a lot like the late Princess Leticia. His speech tends to be either cryptic or poetic. Charles calls describes himself as a liar and believes he is too steeped in darkness to stand in the light. There is a sense of fragility about him

Nickname: None

Charm point: His voice

Quote: “No matter what happens, no matter what people may say, I’ll be on your side.” “I want you to be the happiest princess in the world.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Dance, closely and only together

Would have eloped with:

  • Philippe, because according to Charles, he treats the MC with the affection one would grant a small animal

Favorite moments:

  • Charles’s voice actor, Nobuhiko Okamoto, has such a nice voice. It is so gentle and soothing, and I’d like a CD of his lines to play while I’m trying to sleep. There is also a line where he pants and it’s very sexy 😉
  • Pierre trying to get into a fight with the catty maids (Pierre is just great in general, as usual)
  • Charles secretly getting jealous since all the MC thinks about is flowers
  • Camille setting the MC and Charles up
  • Charles and the MC visiting Kyoto
  • Honey End chapter of the Affection Route

Worst moments:

  • In the voiced act in chapter three the voiced parts don’t match with text
  • In the fifth act of chapter thirteen instead of Charles’s sprite you get Philippe’s sprite once and Theo’s another time

Worth the price of admission?: This route is okay, but it is definitely the worst route of the game. I found Charles to be an intriguing character. However his feeling that the MC will be unhappy if she’s with him is never explained to my satisfaction. Since this doesn’t pan out Charles’s mysteriousness falls flat. The Attraction Route felt like it was trying to build to something big, but just sort of petered out. The Affection Route is the better of the two endings,  although Charles’s flip-flopping back and forth from sweet to cold and the continued lack of satisfactory explanation about why Charles sees himself as a shadow prevent this ending from achieving the levels of Philippe and Theo’s routes
