Takamune Kitami

Plot Summary: The MC is surprised to learn that not only will Ayato being working on her company’s 10th anniversary project, but Takamune will as well. She is made the point of contact between her childhood friends and her work, and suddenly becomes aware of how little she has interacted with Takamune without Ayato. When a reporter intercepts the three of them, Takamune says that he never considered the MC his friend and that they only hung out because of Ayato. Stunnned and hurt, the MC begins to question their relationship

What I think of him: Takamune loves soccer above all else; it’s pretty much the only thing he thinks about. Even though soccer is a team sport, Takamune is really awkward and sometimes a little shy around others. He frequently is unable to voice his true thoughts, and what little he does manage to say is usually blunt and bordering on rude. Takamune’s social inepitude is probably due to the fact that he doesn’t understand others (especially girls) and doesn’t really try to either. Ayato has been his best friend since elementary school and is probably the only person that Takamune understands. Even though he is really close to Ayato, Takamune feels jealous of the easy way Ayato is able to get along with everyone

Nickname: Taka

Charm point: He has a serious sweet tooth

Quote: “I’m going to protect you, not as Ayato’s proxy, but because I want to.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Talk on the river bank, because that’s where all his true feeling seem to come out

Would have eloped with:

  • Ayato, because dammit I felt bad for him and without him Takamune and the MC would have never gotten together

Favorite moments:

  • That the MC is pretty much over Hiro starting the day after getting rejected by him
  • The MC works hard and improves on her own without using a guy as a reason
  • When Takamune and the MC make up after the training camp argument
  • Takamune and the little kids at the river bank
  • The promotional even with the kids and topping off with Takamune and Ayato playing soccer
  • Theme park

Worst moments:

  • The MC says she never hung out with Takamune without Ayato, but also says that Takamune was always there to rescue her when Ayato wasn’t around. You can’t have it both ways

Worth the price of admission?: I was really looking forward to this route and it was interesting, but not in the way I wanted it to be. What I enjoyed most about this route is not Takamune and the MC’s relationship, but Ayato, his feelings, Takamune’s feelings for Ayato, and the MC’s feelings for Ayato. If Ayato didn’t love the MC, or if he decided to keep quiet about it, the route would have had it’s moments (playing soccer with the kids), but it would have been mostly meh. That I feel the way I do about this route way is really weird because I abhor love-triangles, but this time I just found it to be a beautiful mess. It felt much more true to how Ayato would feel if the MC fell in love with one of the other guys.

To be honest, I’m not sure if I’d recommend this route. I was ready to fall in love with Takamune, but even though I found the route interesting (in an “I can analyze this!” so of way), there was no love connection for me as a reader

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • His POV: The Main Route from Takamune’s point-of-view. It shows just how awkward Takamune is and how much he didn’t mean to/understand that he was hurting the MC. There are a couple of new scenes with Ayato and Takamune (without the MC) and I enjoyed the Ayato stuff is what I liked in the route, and it also informed more of what was going on in Takamune’s head later in the route. Unfortunately it doesn’t go to the ending of the Main Route and stops right before the exhibition match begins
  • It’s a Date: A couple days after becoming a couple and returning to Japan the MC is busy with work and Takamune is busy with soccer. They haven’t had a lot of time together, but when they do get the chance to see each other again, Takamune suggests that they go on a date. The MC is a little too hung up on being “girlfriendy” but this is a cute epilogue. I wasn’t too into the MC and Takamune as a couple in the Main Route, but they were really adorable in this and I could totally ship it
