Shiroya

shiroya prof

Plot Summary: The MC chooses Shiroya to accompany her because he has a cheerful and peaceful presence. Kaito, Kikyo, and Rindoh all sign up to come along as well. The MC grew up with the ninja so she believes that she knows Shiroya well, but the night before they leave on their quest the MC sees a Shiroya that she doesn’t know; a Shiroya who’s hazel eyes are red.

What I think of him: Shiroya is sweet, cheerful, and energetic. Shiroya frequently helps the MC in smoothing over things when tensions between the urban villages and the country villages arise. Even though he seems to be carefree, Ayumu points out that both he and Shiroya are both masters of concealing their emotions, they just do it differently. Even though he is a talented ninja, he at times has little confidence in himself because he came into his ninja powers late and also because he frequently compares himself to Kaito. Overall Shiroya is a wonderful sunflower child who feels like he would be an excellent kindergarten teacher. An event in his past cause him to develop an Other Shiroya, who comes out when Shiroya is afriad or unable to cope. The Other Shiroya has red eyes (as opposed to Shiroya’s hazel) and is more worldly. His purpose is to protect Shiroya

Charm point: He wants to cook the MC things and take care of her

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Cuddle, to take away all of his bad experiences and to embrace both sides of him

Would have eloped with:

  • Kaito, because he’s very supportive of Shiroya and even though he probably has feelings for the MC, his bro-hood with Shiroya is his top priority and he really supports their relationship

Favorite moments:

  • Shiroya cooking for everyone
  • The cherry blossom scene
  • The cabin in the snow
  • When the other Shiroya “kidnaps” the MC
  • I love the twist Solmare applied while making a Hyuga descendant. Hyuga’s trait was being two-faced, and really matches that but in such a different way with the normal Shiroya being so happy and kind like how Hyuga acted when he was in Yoshitsune’s presence and the Other Shiroya being closer to how Hyuga normally was

Worst moments:

  • The villain twist was obvious, I didn’t think it really had to happen except to maybe get the reader curious to read that route. But what I really want to know is why. There are no explanations or hints and I find it sort of inexcusable
  • How did the MC come to the decision about how to end the curse. She didn’t know the full details about it until moments before but somehow she definitely knew that preforming a certain crazy action was going to fix things
  • The Happy Ending was too short

Worth the price of admission?: Yes, I don’t regret picking Shiroya first although most people probably went for Kaito or Kikyo. He is an adorable sunshine child, and I felt that he and the MC would make a great couple/family

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: (You can get this from the Fortune Slip that becomes available after you unlock the Happy Ending) This takes place directly after the Happy Ending. Since the ending was so short this should honestly have just be another section onto that. The MC and Shiroya get a little closer, but it’s too bad that they don’t go all the way like they would have in an older Solmare games

Notable substories: None yet

Takeshi Yuno

Takeshi

Plot Summary: The MC decides to help Takeshi at his family’s bathhouse, Happy Waters. She finds Takeshi to be just as hard to understand and kind as he was ten years ago, but she is very aware that he has grown up as well. The MC is settling back in with her childhood friends when she hears that Takeshi might be dating the manager of the track team, Natsumi.

What I think of him: Takeshi is quiet and quirky. He thinks a lot but doesn’t really share his thoughts so it’s difficult to understand what he’s thinking at times, but he is very honest. He doesn’t care what others think about him but isn’t comfortable with being in the spotlight. He prefers to observe people (although he isn’t really subtle about it). Takeshi likes manga and talking history with Johji. He also loves running, but wonders if he should be spending time on track when he could be helping out with the bath house his family runs

Charm point: His childhood nickname for the MC is Little Duck and it is the cutest thing ever

Quote: “Finally, I could tell my first love how I feel… For as long as I can remember, I’ve always liked you.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Kiss, the MC’s first, second, and all of them

Would have eloped with:

  • Haruki, because his sister complex is hilarious and adorable

Favorite moments:

  • Takeshi’s secret
  • Ryuzo’s little brother’s request to get Haruki’s little sister to like him (Haru’s reactions are always hilarious)
  • The whole Osteo Drink thing (adorable)
  • I really like Natsumi, she’s a really great girl friend character
  • All the guys teasing the MC on the train
  • Sneaking out with Takeshi

Worst moments:

  • The Indian guy was super annoying and I don’t really know why he even has to be in the route
  • Things just seem to happen and get resolved quickly (like the bullying subplot)
  • It takes the MC a weirdly long time to realize that she has a crush on Takeshi. She seems to have a good grasp on how she’s feeling and even frets about him saying they’re “just friends” but her lightbulb moment comes after that fairly late in the route

Worth the price of admission?: Yes, I love Takeshi and even though he is funnier in other routes, this route is cute and Natsumi is the best girl friend the MC gets in any of the high school routes

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: A month after Takeshi and the MC start going out, Takeshi’s grandma enters him as their neighborhood’s participant in the Poster Boy Pageant, a pageant for sons of local business owners. Takeshi doesn’t want to join but since the winner gets to be on TV, this might be another chance to find his grandma’s first love. The MC and Takeshi are still in their very adorable just-started-going-out phase, and the other boys are out full force with their friendship as well
  • Sequel: Takeshi is busy training for the All-Japan track team. The MC misses their time together, especially since he’s going to be gone for a week for training camp, but she decides to do her best to support him. And since Happy Waters is loosing business, the MC begins to work to bring in business to Takeshi’s family business. This route mostly focuses on the MC and Takeshi’s difficulties in sharing their concerns with each other. I thought the love rival was unnecessary, but overall the route was good. The best parts were when the guys were goofing around and when the MC finally got to be together with Takeshi
  • Three Years Later: Three years after they began dating, the MC and Takeshi are both in college pursuing their respective dreams. The MC’s parents are returning to Japan for a visit, and she’s excited about getting to introduce Takeshi as her boyfriend. But then she gets a call from Aiko that Takeshi was injured and learns that he might never be able to run competitively again. This route is rough, and I know a lot of people hate it. It’s not my choice of a light read, but the emotions in this one hit hard. If you want a happy and fun, you probably won’t like this route, but it is important going forward so you should at least read a full summary if you don’t want to buy it
  • Living with Him: Takeshi gets to live in the Ninja Men house, a location from his favorite childhood show, and he wants the MC to move in with him. Living together isn’t as sweet as the MC thought it would be initially but once the MC begins communicating her relationship with Take becomes adorable. And if you are like me, you will be happy to know that there is a lot more of Takeshi in glasses (*squee*)
  • Ten Years Later: It’s been almost ten years since the MC and Takeshi have started going out and both of them are both busy with their careers. Takeshi is close to achieving his goal of being the trainer of an Olympian, but things are getting a little rocky on that front. And since one of her friends is getting married, the MC begins to wonder when she and Takeshi will take that step. Takeshi is a little bullheaded for most of this, but once he recovers things are sweet (then worrisome and then sweet again). I don’t know… I kept reading but I pretty much just wanted to get to the end already (with the exception of a few scenes)
  • Wedding: The MC and Takeshi move in together. But with the Olympics just around the corner the two of them haven’t even spoken about their plans for marriage. Furthermore, Takeshi has to leave for an extended training camp. The MC feels a little lonely but decides that she must support Takeshi’s dream. This was the Takeshi route I was waiting for, it’s so much better than the Ten Years Later route. The MC is suffering from the usual suffer-in-silence syndrome, the foreshadowing was heavy-handed, and it didn’t feel like it was a “wedding” route until the last chapter, but I was invested in the story. When I reflect on the choices that Takeshi made in the end, I sort of feel sad, like I did about the cram school teacher’s decision in Homare’s sequel. I don’t really understand why it had to be that way, but I guess the end result is cute so I’ll try not to dwell on it. If you like Takeshi, this route is a good one

Notable substories:

  • Summer Camp Love: This takes place in high school. The MC and the guys are going to attend a neighborhood summer camp but suddenly the track team has a practice match on the same day. This one has a cute high school date and lots of snuggling
  • Black Ship Halloween: Takes place during high school. The guys decide to have a Halloween event at Black Ship. They divvy up the tasks and the MC decides to help Takeshi decorate the place. There’s a cute scene of them goofing off at a store, costumes, and Takeshi being cute
  • Sports Day Kiss: Takes place during high school. Sports day is coming up and Takeshi and the MC are on the basketball team. But things aren’t going well since Takeshi is doing well in a team setting. The MC is a bit of a hypocrite in this one since she keeps telling Takeshi not to overwork himself while she does exactly that to herself. It’s nice to see her taking a more active support role rather than just being there for him
  • Gushing Praise: (from Sweet Cafe) Takes place during high school. The MC buys herself a new dress to celebrate a successful diet and Takeshi has a thing or two to say. What can I say, it’s adorable
  • Let’s Make a Toast: This takes place in college. The MC has finally come of age and can now drink alcohol. When she drinks with the guys for the first time, Takeshi gets drunk, super cute drunk.
  • Sleepless Nights: This takes place during college. Happy Waters is super busy so the MC offers to help out, and afterwards Takeshi invites her up to his room. This story is cute and it comes with a His POV chapter which is pretty much worth the price in and of itself

Hiro Sarashina

Hiro

Plot Summary: Hiro convinces the MC to choose him by assuming an identity that he thinks the MC would like and tricking her. The MC has a hard time pinning down Hiro’s personality since he keeps changing it around. One things she does know is that she doesn’t really have to worry about his warning not to fall in love with him, because there is no way she is falling for a playboy criminal who keeps threatening her and dragging her off to steal things

What I think of him: Even though he was born in the 90’s Hiro has the soul of an 80’s child. He jokes around a lot and seems pretty cheerful but he is also really smart with an IQ high enough that the government has always had an eye on him. His family is pretty broken but he is close to his twin sister who sort of has a brother complex. Hiro is fascinated with his power over women and tends to hook up with them and use them. He is really good at figuring out people and adjusting his attitude to work with them

Charm point: He’s the perfect guy if you’re into role playing (love the dark hair and glasses look)

Quote: “I just naturally want to take care of you. I want to treasure you.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Play dress up together

Would have eloped with: No one

Favorite moments:

  • When the MC first sees Hiro crossdressing
  • The MC no-selling Hiro when he starts genuinely liking her because she things he’s messing around
  • The MC slapping Hiro for screwing with her at the dog race
  • On the beach when Hiro opens up to the MC about his past
  • The stories about the MC and her great-grandfather
  • When Seiko barges in on Hiro and the MC making out and proceeds to scold Hiro for how he’s treating the MC
  • Hiro’s interaction with the other Black Foxes in the Happy Ending

Worst moments:

  • It’s rough being with Hiro at first. He deceives, threatens, and insults the MC and it is hard

Worth the price of admission?: I like Hiro in other routes but his route is tough. The last couple of chapters are nice, but I honestly don’t know if those chapters are worth wading through the rest

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: Ranko’s newspaper is hosting a party to a former Interpol detective who quit his job to chase after the Black Foxes, and she wants the MC to acts as a hostess at the event. Hiro agrees to let the MC go so long as he can also attend the party. I enjoyed the interaction between the MC and Seiko, and Hiro is now always in cute mode with the MC. If you liked the last couple of the chapters in the main route, then you will like this epilogue

Notable substories:

  • A Thief’s Day Job: The MC and Ranko decide to shadow Hiro at his art college for Ranko’s article. Hiro is all over the MC as usual but the MC is surprised to see a more serious side to him as well. I like watching Hiro goof off and it’s fun to see what he gets up to in his day to day life
  • What If… Hiro: In order to save a precious place from his childhood, Hiro must pretend to be a new actor. This one is very silly and it’s worth buying even if you aren’t a big Hiro fan
  • The Thief Olympics: The Black Foxes are joining a competition to decide who the best thieves in the world are and the MC partners with Hiro for the disguise competition. Hiro is goofing around for most of this but everything from when Hiro and the MC start getting chased is entertaining. Plus the White Raccoon makes an appearance which is always fun
  • A Chocolate Kiss: It’s Valentine’s Day and the special chocolates the MC made for Hiro are missing. She says she’ll make more for him, and Hiro immediately brings her back to his kitchen. Since Hiro seems so good at everything it is nice to see how much he sucks at cooking. And since it’s Hiro you know things get steamy towards the end
  • The White Foxes: It’s White Day and time for Hiro to give back. It’s a cute date story and Hiro spends his time being very sweet and very flirty (as usually). My favorite part is probably when Hiro names a sheep after Takuto

Tatsuro Togoshi

Tatsuro

Plot Summary: The MC’s childhood friend, Tatsuro, has returned to Japan from training with the FBI in order to catch the Black Foxes. Tatsuro was the MC’s first love and she finds herself falling for him again, but, unbeknownst to him, they are  enemies now.

What I think of him: Tatsuro is dedicated to his work and to catching the Black Foxes. He frequently returns home only to fall asleep on the couch from exhaustion. He is athletic and kind so he was always a little popular with girls. He is inexperienced with women and is sort of a pushover when it comes to them; this leads to him frequently dating pushy girls, but his relationships usually end after three months. He can be oblivious about some things but can also be very sharp. He adores the MC, to the point that he turns on his blinders in regards to the possibility of her being a Black Fox. Even though he is a perceptive detective, he can be a little bit clumsy. The Black Fox guys like to make fun of him but I think he only seems plan compared to them since they are so extraordinary and Tatsuro is only above average (consider the difference of being top of your class versus top in the country)

Charm point: The MC was his first love and he still hasn’t gotten over her

Quote: “You were always number one in my mind.”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Pat on the MC’s head, it was the touch she was afraid to lose

Would have eloped with:

  • Hiro, because he warns her about what will happen if she falls for Tatsuro and tries to cheer her up when everything goes to hell

Favorite moments:

  • Tatsuro’s confession
  • Their first kiss
  • Whenever the MC and Tatsuro’s childhood is brought up
  • The Happy Ending
  • The MC’s conflict in this one is so good. The set up of her being a thief and him being a police detective was already great, but her feeling that she is betraying him is so heart wrenching

Worst moments:

  • I hate Kuroiwa. I know we’re supposed to, but she didn’t have to be so freaking annoying
  • I wish there was more of the Black Foxes I love in this one. They feel a little distant since we don’t get to see them goofing off as much, and at times they can be a little scary/insensitive (like when Kenshi is telling the MC that Tatsuro might have to have one of his legs amputated)

Worth the price of admission?: Yes, Tatsuro is the butt of many a joke but he is a sweetheart and an all around great guy. The devotion he has for the MC is touching and the emotions of both him and the MC are spot on in his route

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: The MC and Tatsuro are going out but it’s awkward transitioning from childhood friends to lovers. Just when they are planning to go on a little trip together, Tatsuro gets put in charge of a case involving Black Fox impersonators. The MC and Tatsuro are cute together and it’s nice seeing the Black Foxes goofing around so much (Hiro is especially hilarious). I have mixed feelings about the MC graduating from the Black Foxes, but considering how much she felt like she was betraying Tatsure in the main route, I think it was ultimately the right move

Notable substories:

  • A Hot Springs Trip: Tatsuro wins a couple’s hit springs trip and invites the MC. The MC is trying to enjoy the vacation but is on guard for disturbances from the black foxes. It’s the MC versus the Black Foxes, there’s a pillow fight, and it ends with Tatsuro getting aggressive. What more could you ask for?
  • What If… Tatsuro: Tatsuro needs help getting evidence to acquit a friend and he has no where to turn but the Black Foxes. Basically, Tatsuro joins the Black Foxes for a mission and it’s great, and it ends with him being sexy and aggressive 😉
  • A Chocolate Kiss: The MC can’t find the chocolate she made for Tatsuro. She makes it a mission to buy him chocolate during their date before he notices that anything is going on. This story is mostly silly, but also cute
  • The White Foxes: The MC and Tatsuro are out on a date on White Day, and the MC happens to see Tatsuro secretly talking to Hiro and Takuto. This is just as silly as the Valentine’s Day prequel and just as cute

Kenshi Inagaki

Kenshi

Plot Summary: Riki assigns Kenshi to watch over the MC and orders the MC to move into Kenshi’s house. Kenshi lives in the traditional restaurant that his family has been running for centuries and which his mother is currently running. When Atsumu forces the MC to quit her job, the MC ends up working for Kenshi’s mother in the restaurant. As the MC spends more time with and around Kenshi the more see is able to see past the label of “criminal” to the man beneath.

What I think of him: Kenshi is kind and dependable. He has a big brother vibe and is always there to take care of others. Almost everything he does is for other people. He’s a jock and probably the most athletic of the Black Foxes. He is very enthusiastic and doesn’t have much of a filter between his thoughts and his mouth. He is pretty open about his feelings and is smarter than he seems. He is very conscious about what being a thief means for her personal life so he tends to put barriers between himself and those not involved in Black Fox business.

Charm point: He’s very honest and open about his feelings and isn’t afraid of PDA

Quote: “… Oh my god, that is so cute… but I guess I shouldn’t call you cute when you’re chained up like this…”

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Ruffling the MC’s hair, messing it up

Would have eloped with:

  • Tatsuro, because he wants to help the MC so much and his rivalry with Kenshi is cute

Favorite moments:

  • The MC punching the target and Kenshi’s subsequent teasing
  • The camellia sweets incident and the rooftop scene
  • Bath scene
  • The MC’s second mission
  • Moving into Le Renard Noir
  • The MC comforting Kenshi
  • Kenshi and Hiro rescuing the MC when she gets abducted
  • Visiting Kenshi’s mom in the hospital
  • I really love how Kenshi and the MC become good friends before they fall in love

Worst moments:

  • The part were it’s suggested that Tatsuro is deceiving the MC
  • I don’t understand why the other waitresses need to be catty towards the MC
  • So many situations could have been avoided if the guys had just told the MC things (like why she needed to quit her job)

Worth the price of admission?: Yes, Kenshi is a great guy, and he and the MC have a healthy and adorable relationship

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: The MC is back in her own apartment and at her old job, but she and Kenshi are going strong. Then one day the MC finds a letter from a woman in Kenshi’s drawer. Not only are the MC super cute in this one, but they also share the same insecurities which is nice. Since Kenshi spends a lot of the main route not seeing the MC as a girl, it’s nice to see him fret over her, and it is even better when the MC gets him to acknowledge that she is a full member of the Black foxes
  • Sequel: I have to confess that I saw someone read this route, but I do not own it myself because I didn’t care for it. Sure I like how competent the MC is as a thief and her and Kenshi are cute, but I couldn’t do the Princess getting a crush on him thing.
  • Sequel Epilogue: Belis asks the MC has to disguise herself as a princess to fill in for one at a party. Kenshi goes along as her date and convinces her to wear the tiara he bought for her. The first chapter is pretty whatever, in my opinion, but the second chapter makes up for it

Notable substories:

  • A Thief’s Day Job: Ranko needs to follow around a hot guy for a day for an article and the MC volunteers Kenshi and gets to tag along as well. It’s nice to see Kenshi at his day job and I like seeing his cute technologically incapable side. Plus you get to see a little more of Kenshi and Tatsuro competing for the MC which is always a treat (you can branch off into Tatsuro’s “route” from Kenshi’s route too)
  • A Hot Spring Trip: The Black Fox boys rig a contest so the MC wins a hot spring trip for everyone. Kenshi and the MC are being mushier than usual and the other guys can’t take it anymore so they come up with a plan to separate the lovebirds. The relationship between Kenshi and the MC is super cute as usual, and it is nice to see more of the other guys being up to mischief
  • A Dangerous Fall: The MC’s museum is holding a big exhibit, but the day after the loaned pieces arrive, they are stolen. The MC pairs with Kenshi to find one of the stolen pieces, a katana. Kenshi really shows his thief skills in this one and is very dashing
  • Chocolate Kiss: The MC makes chocolates for all the guys, but when she tries to give them out she discovers that her chocolates are missing. This one has a great chase scene and it’s cute to see how far Kenshi will go to retrieve the chocolates that his honey made especially for him
  • The White Foxes: It’s time for White Day and for the guys to return the favor. Kenshi plans a date on his own and the MC can’t help but notice that’s he’s so different today. Kenshi is sweet in this one and his relationship with the MC is probably one of the best relationships in Voltagedom (from a realistic standpoint)
  • A Field Day for Thieves: It’s field day for the local shopping center and the Black Foxes are recruited to participate. The MC struggles to keep pace with the athletic Kenshi, and Tatsuro intervenes. This one is nice since Kenshi gets to show his athletic side, and I always love seeing Tatsuro competing with Kenshi over the MC
