Kakeru Kamui

Kakeru

Plot Summary: The MC chooses Kakeru because she knew him already and he immediately pawns her off on his brother, Meguru. The MC wants to live for another ten days so she can be there for her sister when she gives birth. Kakeru tells the MC that there is no point in her acting like such a “good girl” when she is going to die soon, but inevitable he is drawn to that quality and her sassiness. However, Meguru also seems to be drawn to the MC, and she worries that prolonging her life may just be causing trouble for the devils.

What I think of him: Kakeru is the crown prince of the Demon Realm and was raised to those high standards, and he is therefore very strict with himself and with others. He is an elite and is good at almost everything he tries his hand at and is very arrogant about it. He prefers to do things on his own and isn’t good at asking for things. He is bossy (his favorite saying is that he requires “absolute obedience”) and doesn’t know how to handle beings that won’t follow his orders, like children and dogs. His hobby is studying human sayings.

Charm point: He is ticklish and the MC is the only one that knows

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Kiss, the MC’s first one and all that follow

Would have eloped with:

  • Meguru, because he likes the MC and wants to run away with her, but will stand back and see her be happy with Kakeru
  • Shiki, because does so much to help the MC out and he risks his life so she and Kakeru can be together

Favorite moments:

  • Kakeru thanking the MC while carrying her to her room
  • The MC is great in this route and I love all the time she sasses and gets angry at Kakeru
  • Lunch and bowling with the MC and Kakeru
  • “Even if I lose everything else, I don’t want to lose you, your warmth.”
  • All of Shiki’s insults
  • Kakeru’s confession
  • When the MC tells Kakeru to “make me yours”
  • The guys spying on the MC and Kakeru when they’re about to have sexy-time

Worst moments:

  • “Her feelings don’t matter”
  • Kakeru accusing the MC of seducing Meguru in order to live longer
  • Rein’s accent is unnecessarily heavy and hard to read in this route
  • Sometimes the cuts between scenes are super abrupt and it makes you think you missed something

Worth the price of admission?: Yes, there are some mechanical issues in this route (abrupt scene changes) but the MC is great and perfect for Kakeru

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: The MC moves out of the Demon House and she and Kakeru continue to work together and date. In thanks for everything they’ve done for her and her baby, the MC’s sister gives them tickets to a hot spring resort. This epilogue doesn’t really have much conflict but it is very sweet since Kakeru and the MC are being their cute, coupley selves
  • Dating a Demon:Takes place before the epilogue. The MC decides to move out of the Demon House and into her own apartment. She’s a little lonely but Kakeru comes over frequently. In fact, since she moved out Kakeru seems even more intent on pleasing her. The MC is enjoying his extra attention but is also worried about why he is pushing himself. It’s a little strange to see Kakeru being so unconditionally kind, but there are lots of cute moments between him and the MC.
  • Sequel: The MC has moved back into the Demon House and she and Kakeru have been all lovey-dovey. Kakeru receives an invitation to an annual ball in the Demon Realm, and he decides that this is the perfect opportunity to introduce the MC to society. But all is not well in the Demon Realm; recently someone sneaked into the angel armory and stole a poison that can seal a demon’s power. I think this is the first time the MC realizes what it means to be dating the crown prince of the Demon Realm, especially considering the way most demons perceive humans. This route has a bit of action and danger so you get to see Kakeru being manly and protecting the MC, but equally nice is the fact that the MC ultimately saves the day.
  • Wedding: Kakeru proposes to the MC, and she goes to the Demon Realm to undergo princess training. The MC feels a lot of pressure to become a bride worthy of Kakeru. Kakeru is also super busy with princely things but he frequently stops in to tell her to take things at her own pace and not overwork herself. Since the number of souls being toasted and reincarnated don’t match, Kakeru made a treaty with the Angel Realm. However, the treaty is not popular with the citizens of the Demon Realm and they begin to protest against the monarchy. Kakeru insists that the MC shouldn’t worry and that he will solve everything, but all the MC wants is to be of help to her beloved. In this one Kakeru learns to depend more on the MC and to talk about his troubles. The plot was a bit whatever for me (it was well selected to show the change Kakeru’s character had undergone throughout his routes though), but all in all I felt very satisfied seeing him and the MC married.

Notable substories:

  • A Devil Halloween Party: It’s Halloween, and there are rumors going around that the Demon House is haunted and the MC comes up with a plan that involves Kakeru entering a costume contest. This is cute since Kakeru has a sort of dorky moment and all of the guys team up to mess with him a little. Kakeru is Dracula and it suits him very well
  • If He was Your… Part 1: The MC is Kakeru’s college senpai and the manager of his swim club, It’s cute seeing Kakeru as the younger one even though he is still as bossy as usual.

Haruhito Amano

Haruhito

Plot Summary: The MC picks Haruhito because he looks laid-back, but Haruhito turns her down since he is for toasting her immediately. Kakeru tells Haruhito that he has to watch over the MC and that Cerberus, Haruhito’s dog, is attached to the MC. The MC asked to live for ten days because she is supposed to play the piano at her friend’s wedding. The MC feels like she and Haruhito are getting closer, but then she overhears him saying that he only thinks of her as a toastee. Additionally, the devils keep mentioning how she’s the “ten thousandth” and no one will tell her what it means.

What I think of him: Haruhito is a weird one. He does things at his own pace and frequently causes trouble and then proceeds to run away. A lot of the time he doesn’t thing before he does/says things, and he doesn’t really care about the opinion of others. He is also earnest, childish, silly, and free-spirited. He is always the first to propose a party. He believes in fate and that struggling to change the outcome is futile. He loves his pet/partner Cerberus and was Rein’s partner when he was an angel.

Charm point: He always wants the MC to smile and will act to make it happen

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Run away together, holding hands

Would have eloped with:

  • Rein, because he is such a great friend to Haruhito, and he talks to the MC seriously
  • Shiki, because he is also such a great friend, and it’s obvious how much he worries about those he cares about

Favorite moments:

  • Iori meeting Haruhito
  • Haruhito siccing Cerberus on Rein and Cerberus’s commands in general
  • When Haruhito is being a ditz (especially the glasses thing)
  • Haruhito’s omelettes and his song
  • The MC’s resolve to be toasted, and Haruhito getting angry because of it
  • The “archenemy named Fear: conversation
  • The aftermath of Shiki’s mind control (hurts so good)
  • “You became more important than being an angel, a demon, or myself.”

Worst moments:

  • Kakeru pushing the MC and being mean to her during his fight with Meguru
  • Haruhito punches the MC. Who does that?!
  • Convenient conversations between Haruhito and Shiki are convenient
  • Haruhito says he’s going to keep pretending he forgot but then he acts like he remembers and the devils don’t notice for a while
  • The ten day fate database rule was convenient

Worth the price of admission?: If you like characters like Haruhito then go for it, but he is such an odd one that he definitely isn’t for everyone

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: Haruhito is living with the MC and the money from her job is stretched tight supporting the two of them. A chance encounter sees Haruhito hired at a flower shop. Now, Haruhito is busier than ever, and the MC feels lonely and a little neglected. A lot of this route is spent with the MC upset/uneasy around Haruhito, so all the cute moments are at the beginning and end. The end is pretty sweet but except for something that happens at the end, which is important to the plot of the sequel, there is really no reason to get this.
  • Dating a Demon: This takes place between the main route and the epilogue. Since Haruhito is now human he has to move out of the Demon House and in with the MC. At first the MC is super excited to be living with Haruhito, but soon she begins to worry about how he has been cut off from his previous life and can no longer even visit the devils. This story is much better than the epilogue, with more interesting emotional complexity on the part of both the MC and Haruhito. This one is full of touching and sweet moments.
  • Sequel: Conflict between the Demon and Angel Realms is building so Kakeru asks Haruhito to return to the Demon House since he understands both sides. He is also given the opportunity to returning to being an angel or a devil. Haruhito is till struggling with his identity issues brought up in the Dating a Devil route, and it is wonderful to see the MC support him. Haruhito is all over the MC as usual so there are lots of coupley moments but mostly it is nice to see how much Haruhito has changed from his first route.

Notable substories:

  • A Devil Halloween Party: A rumor that the Demon House is haunted has been started by kids at a local kindergarten school. The MC and Haruhito are sent to befriend the kids and stop the rumors. To get into the school Haruhito plans to have the MC be a magician. This is a cute substory both on Haruhito’s part and that of the kids.

Satoru Kamagari

Satoru

Plot Summary: The MC chooses Satoru to watch over her because she thinks he has a kind smile… The reason she wants another ten days is because her parents are away and she wants to spend a little time with them before she dies. She is shocked to learn that Satoru isn’t as kind as he first seemed, and the two of them find themselves at odds in how they think.

What I think of him: Satoru is a professional. He is charming when he needs to be and has a great working ethic. He is probably the hardest working of the devils considering that he worked his way to his position entire on his own. He can see the futures of humans and uses this power for his own benefit by seeing who will be useful to him and only pursing those connections. Most of the time the connections he purses are with women. Because of how he grew up he is distrustful of others. Additionally, Satoru is possessive, bossy, and his jealousy is easily aroused.

Charm point: He is technology illiterate, like he can’t even work a remote for the television

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Be pushed down, because Satoru is always making a move

Would have eloped with:

  • Meguru, because he helps the MC out and tells her everything she needs to know

Favorite moments:

  • Teaching Satoru how to use the computer
  • Satoru choosing to nurse the MC over chasing Akane and the teasing that ensues
  • The quest for the pirate ship (and that the prizes are from Pirates in Love)
  • “We’re going to die on the same day”
  • It is so apparent how the MC influenced Satoru and it’s great

Worst moments:

  • Satoru getting angry that the MC rejects him but went into the VIP room with another guy
  • I don’t believe that Satoru would forget his dinner promise with the MC, maybe before the computer scene but definitly not after (and he even reminded her about it)

Worth the price of admission?: Satoru’s route is rough at first but the MC has a quick effect, and once Satoru starts trusting the MC this route is pretty cute

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: The MC has to stay late at work with a coworker and she has no way of letting Satoru know since he doesn’t have a cell phone. Satoru is jealous and upset and the next day he invites Akane up to his room. This epilogue is cute. Satoru was really sweet towards the end of his route, but here he makes a complete comeback and is his possessive, bossy self again. The MC really needs to stand up for herself more, but it’s mostly cute.
  • Dating a Demon: The MC’s parents, who are living abroad, invite the MC and Satoru to visit them in Germany. In Germany the MC and Satoru are shown around by the MC’s cousin, Kaiji. Satoru seems to be okay with their alone time being interrupted but it seems like Kaiji might have a crush on the MC!? Jealousy arises but ultimately Satoru shows how much he loves the MC and it is very sweet, and as a plus there is some sexy time with Satoru at the end.
  • Sequel: Satoru recieves news that his former captain, the man who recommended him for a promotion, is getting a promotion himself. He decides to go in person to celebrate his mentor and bring the MC along. At the same time there has been an abnormal increase in toasting candidates in the fate database. Satoru is mostly his teasing self, although he also has several touching moments. Both he and the MC have kick-ass moments as well (it’s always nice to see the MC being active and doing stuff). A small side note of the story is Satoru going from thinking marriage is a hassle to thinking more seriously about matrimony.

Notable substories:

  • A Devil Halloween Party: It’s almost Halloween and here are rumors going around that the Demon House is haunted. In order to quell some of the rumors the devil sign the house up as a location for the neighborhood stamp collecting event. Participating in the event was Satoru’s idea, but why does the MC feel like he’s up to something. This was a cute story and Satoru is very characteristically himself. The MC wasn’t a complete pushover too which is nice. Plus, cotsumes!
  • Today He’s Kind of… Satoru: From Sweet Cafe. Satoru is suddenly acting… nice? Even though the MC always complained that she wanted him to be nicer, she somehow isn’t satisfied with the change. This is a cute little story, and it definitely establish that the MC is a M for Satoru.

Jack

Jack

Plot Summary: The MC is sent to work in the kitchens with Jack, the man who had threatened her with a knife when she initially entered the hotel. Jack is super enthusiastic to be working with the MC and keeps her busy. She soon learns that although his employers think he is, Jack is not a vampire. She feels sure that Jack is on her side and tells him how she needs to drink the dew of the roses within ten days in order to stay human. Jack promises to help her and warns her that on the nights of a full moon, she should stay inside.

What I think of him: Jack is childish, a little silly, and very energetic. He seems to act first without thinking but there is actually going on in his brain and he can be clever if he needs to be. He is usually very cheerful and tends to cling to the MC, especially after their feels become mutual. He is a great chef and the kitchen is very much his domain.

Charm point: The MC is his, okay? And he’ll tell everyone (and everything).

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Cuddle, because Jack is always hugging the MC

Would have eloped with:

  • Daniel, because his interaction with Jack is wonderful and he always seems to pick up where Jack leaves off
  • Alfred, because he clearly has a thing for the MC, but Jack isn’t having any of that

Favorite moments:

  • I think the way Jack talks is cute
  • How carefully Jack tends to the MC after she was attacked
  • When he finds out that the MC cooked for other guys first
  • All the parts where Jack is deeply worried about the MC

Worst moments:

  • The witch hating seemed artificial
  • The irresponsibility of the MC and Jack in the Toccata Ending
  • Why did Jack have to not remember his early life? It isn’t really explored and is only brought up when convenient

Worth the price of admission?: Yes! I really like Jack’s character and his route is great for the most part

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS): Haven’t read anything

Notable substories: Haven’t read anything

Tsubasa Shirai

Tsukasa

Plot Summary: The MC asks for a ten day life extension because she has been put in charge of her first project at work. Kakeru, admiring her work ethic, agrees to let her live and has her move into the Demon House so they can keep an eye on her and protect her from the angels. The project the MC pleaded so hard for is an advertisement campaign that will feature the popular model Tsubasa Shirai. Tsubasa is just as cheerful and kind as he is on screen, but the MC gets the feeling that she is not seeing the real him.

What I think of him: Sweet and pleasant, Tsubasa is known for having an angelic smile. He always puts others before himself and attempts to please those around them. At the same time he doesn’t allow anyone close to him and always hides his true feelings. Tsubasa is actually more boyish that the image he portrays.

Charm point: The MC is one of the few people he can show the real him to

Cuddle, kiss, or push down: Just talk, without pretenses

Would have eloped with: None of the other guys really stand out in this route

Favorite moments:

  • The MC forcefully assisting Tsubasa during a photo shoot
  • The MC and Tsubasa getting left behind and get pizza pockets
  • Tsubasa standing up for the MC when she forgets about the change of clothes
  • Sharing warmth in the cabin (so cliche but so cute)
  • Everyone teasing the MC after she and Tsubasa come down the mountain
  • The scene where the MC and Tsubasa talk about her situation (I get teary eyed each time)
  • The MC’s “last words”

Worst moments:

  • We know from the profile that Tsubasa is an angel but it takes the MC so long to find out
  • The angels were jerks
  • How old is Tsubasa supposed to seem? I peg his appearance close to Meguru’s appearance but I keep getting the impression that he’s supposed to seem older
  • I don’t understand when the MC gets close to the Demon House boys. It seems like she’s busy with work most of the time, but after the angels barge in on dinner a couple of days before she is supposed to be toasted, the guys suddenly seem really attached to her

Worth the price of admission?: Yes. Not only do I like Tsubasa’s personality (he’s two-faced in a not scary way), but I really like playing this game from an angel perspective. And if we’re choosing between angels I’d rather not deal with Rein’s accent

After the main route (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

  • Epilogue: Since Tsubasa’s reappearance he’s super busy and almost on lock-down because of nosy reporters. Tsubasa proposes they go on a trip so they can be together out of sight of prying eyes. The MC is worried about what punishment Tsubasa received for prolonging her life, and whenever she is able to bring it up, Tsubasa changes the subject. On Tsubasa’s part, he keeps saying that he is going to protect the MC and get rid of anything that stands in the way of them being together. However, he doesn’t understand that by not talking about things with the MC he is just making her more worried. The end of this story is great and funny. If you like Tsubasa, you will like the epilogue because he is at his Tsubasa-est.

Notable substories: Haven’t read any
